MODEL GLOSSARY

We created this model glossary to help people new to the model industry. You may see some of these terms in our groups, forum, and member’s profiles.

Book A model’s portfolio book of photos.

Cattle Call A mass interview or audition where numerous models attend. (see also Go-See)

Comp Card A card used to promote the model that contains several photos, the model’s stats, and contact information.

Concept a plan or intention; a conception

Contact Sheet A sheet with photos.

Cosplay The practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially ones from the Japanese genres of manga and anime.

Day Rate The rate charged for a model’s services for a full 8 hour day of work.

Go-See A appointment for a model to be seen and interviewed for a modeling job.

GWC Commonly used in the modeling forums, any poser/creep with a digital camera pretending to be a pro/semi-pro photographer.

Lookbook A collection of photos taken of models wearing a designer or manufacturer’s clothing that is sent out to fashion editors, buyers, clients, and special customers to show the designer’s looks for the season.

Mood Board  Inspiration board with a digital or print collage of ideas that are commonly used in fields like interior design, fashion, and graphic design.

MUA Makeup Artist

OP The person who begins the selected thread in that particular forum.

Rank Give (someone or something) a rank or place within a grading system.

Stats The model’s statistics such as height, bust, waist, hips. For men, it is height, chest, and waist. Modeling agencies very rarely if ever, use weight as a measurement.

Tearsheet A tearsheet is an actual page from a magazine, catalog, or other print jobs in which the model has worked.
